Notes from Past Meetings

February 15,2017 Meeting

The Argonne Alumni Association will hold its monthly meeting 2/15/17 at 11:00 a.m. – noon in the Auditorium of Bldg. 200, the Chemistry Division. The meeting will focus on questions concerning retiree health benefits, with focus on both what other organizations offer along those lines, and what the A3 members view as their needs and interests. A Certified Employee Benefits Consultant with over thirty years of experience in employee benefits will give a brief talk and answer questions. We will then lead an open discussion, asking for views about the past and future changes to our health benefits, and what substantive positions A3 should propose to the larger membership for support or approval

Our meeting this coming Wednesday addresses a symptom of an exceedingly significant issue in the United States.  Since one of the goals of this meeting is education, I’d like to suggest the following links to supplemental or background information:

The first link is to an article that Steven Brill published in the February 20, 2013 issue of Time magazine and the second is to a discussion on NPR the took place on January 5, 2015.

In addition, the book by Steven Brill titled America’s Bitter Pill: money, politics, backroom deals, and the fight to fix our broken healthcare system, Random House, 2015 is available in the Downers Grove Public Library.  I’m sure it is also in other libraries.

You don’t have to do any homework to attend the meeting/lecture/discussion.
